Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer (Grand Rapids) has been tabbed as an All-American for the 2014 season after helping the Bulldog Volleyball squad to the NCAA Division II Tournament and a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship.

Vander Meer officially became the 15th All-America selection in program history by being named to the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-America Team as announced by the national coaches organization on Wednesday.

The 34th annual AVCA All-America Teams for NCAA Division II women's volleyball were announced by the All-America Committee following a review process. Previously, Vander Meer was tabbed as an AVCA All-Midwest Region honoree.

This year represents the fourth time in five years in which FSU has had at least one All-America student-athlete in volleyball. Former Bulldog Arielle Goodson was a second-team recipient in 2010 while Ashley Huntey achieved third team status in 2011 and Lisa Tobiczyk was an honorable mention choice the same year. Middle Hitter Anne Sutton claimed honorable mention accolades in 2012.

This season, Vander Meer led the Bulldogs with 316 kills in 30 matches. She appeared in 101 sets and owned one of the squad's top hitting percentages with a .270 figure. Additionally, she tallied 255 digs, 47 blocks and 20 service aces for Ferris State. Vander Meer was an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team recipient and previously also named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team.

The Bulldogs, who made the school's fourth-straight and 19th overall NCAA Tournament appearance, finished the 2014 campaign with a 24-6 overall record. FSU also won a share of the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship and claimed the school's second-ever GLIAC Tournament title by beating rival Grand Valley State in the tourney title match.

This year marked the 13th time in 19 seasons under head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm in which FSU has claimed at least 20 victories in a campaign. The Bulldogs have also reached the NCAA-II Tournament 19 times and made 17 consecutive GLIAC Tournament appearances in the stretch.
