#18 Ferris State Rolls Past McKendree For Third-Straight Win At FSU Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - Nationally 18th-ranked Ferris State got off to a quick start and rolled past McKendree (Ill.) to open day two action at the Ferris State Volleyball Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 5) inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs moved to 3-0 on the year by taking a convincing 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 win over the visiting Bearcats in a matchup of two teams that both won a pair of matches in first day action at the event on Friday.

Ferris State hit an impressive .241 overall against McKendree and compiled 39 kills to only 27 for the visitors. FSU also benefited from 12 service aces to only two for the Bearcats.

In the win over McKendree, FSU was led by senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer, who had a match-high 12 kills. She also had 10 digs for the Bulldogs.

FSU also received nine kills from senior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman along with seven from senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey. Junior setter Stephanie Sikorski paced the offensive attack with 31 assists in the Bulldog victory.

In the backrow, Ferris State received 15 digs from freshman hitter Katie Placek along with 11 by Huntey and 10 each from Vander Meer and senior libero Danielle Dowd. Sikorski chipped in with eight digs.

Meanwhile, McKendree was led by Allison Schenider's seven kills. She also had 10 digs to lead the Bearcats in that particular category.

Ferris State's 12 service aces included an impressive six from Huntey. Sophomore middle hitter Ayanna Buckley contributed two aces while FSU had six players overall with at least one ace in the match. The Bulldogs totaled nine service mistakes.

Finally, FSU had only a single block while the Bearcats managed four blocks, but also had six service errors and only two aces in the contest.

Ferris State wraps up its annual home invitational by hosting Metro State (Colo.) later today at 5 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
