#4 Ferris State Volleyball Improves To 10-0 Overall With Decisive Home Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally fourth-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad continued its impressive season-opening start as the Bulldogs rolled past Wayne State 3-0 on Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon to complete a weekend homestand in Big Rapids.

Ferris State improved to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC by sweeping the Warriors 25-14, 25-23, 25-14 inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs started quickly with the decisive first-set victory and hit .289 in the opening frame. After a close second-set win, FSU then posted a .323 attack figure in the third to roll past WSU.

Senior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman tallied 10 kills in leading the Bulldogs, who hit .243 for the match with 37 kills. Wayne State was limited to a .009 attack figure and managed 27 kills on 117 attempts.

Along with Heitzman, Ferris State received eight kills from senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer to go with six from junior setter Stephanie Sikorski.

Senior libero Danielle Dowd tallied 10 digs for the Bulldogs with freshman Katie Placek also notching 10 overall. Vander Meer led the way with 12 digs in the Bulldog lineup while senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey contributed nine digs overall.

The Bulldogs finished with 56 digs and also benefited from five service aces, including three from Huntey. FSU had a total of 12 block assists with both Heitzman and sophomore middle hitter Ayanna Buckley recording three each to go with a solo block apiece.

The Warriors were led by the trio of Hannah Moore, Christa Raicevich and Mikayla Shell, who all totaled five kills each. Ellie Rodriguez had 12 digs.

Wayne State fell to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC with the loss. The win was Ferris State's sixth in as many home matches this season.

The 10-0 mark is Ferris State's best start since the 2011 Bulldogs won 16 of their first 17 matches to open their season.

Ferris State has not lost a home match since Nov. 20, 2013. They have won 16 consecutive home matches.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for three matches next weekend as they travel to Canton, Ohio. FSU will first face Walsh in GLIAC play on Friday (Sept. 25) evening at 7 p.m. (ET). Then, on Saturday (Sept. 26), Ferris State visit Malone for a 1 p.m. (ET) league encounter before facing Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) in non-league play at MU starting at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
