#3 Ferris State Opens Big Weekend By Beating GLIAC South Leader Findlay

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally third-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad opened the weekend with a bang as the Bulldogs rolled past Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division leader Findlay in a 3-0 sweep on Friday (Oct. 23) night inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs started a big weekend of action by topping the Oilers 25-17 in the first frame. FSU then posted a 25-20 triumph in the second set and finished off the Oilers with a decisive 25-15 win in the third and final set.

With the victory, FSU improved to 21-1 overall this year and stayed unbeaten atop the GLIAC with a 10-0 league record. UF fell to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in conference action with the loss.

Senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer sparked the Bulldogs with 16 kills in the win while senior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman chipped in with seven kills. Senior Alexis Huntey added six kills overall.

Ferris State also received 12 digs from Vander Meer along with 10 each by senior libero Danielle Dowd and junior setter Stephanie Sikorski. The FSU setter added 27 assists after being honored prior to the contest for notching her 3,000th career assist last week.

The Bulldogs hit .210 for the night on 37 kills with 16 errors in 100 total attacks. FSU also posted 47 digs and had 14 block assists in addition to four aces and a solo block. Ferris State totaled six service mistakes.

On the Findlay side, the Oilers posted 29 kills and had 25 attack errors while hitting only .036 overall. UF notched 42 digs, six assisted blocks and one ace with seven errors at the service line.

The Oilers were paced by Amanda Winner, who tallied nine kills. Hannah Tong added eight in the defeat while Hailee Olson compiled 21 assists and Becca Shoemaker posted 14 digs.

Ferris State, which has now won its last nine matches overall, continues its weekend by hosting Hillsdale on Saturday (Oct. 24) beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs have presently won 31 of their last 33 home encounters, including 19-straight, and are 56-7 overall at home dating back to the start of the 2011 campaign. FSU is now 10-0 at home this season following Friday night's victory.
