Ferris State Volleyball Continues Home Court Dominance With Sweep Of Hillsdale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team, which is ranked third in the nation, continued its dominant play as the Bulldogs rolled past visiting Hillsdale 3-0 on Saturday (Oct. 24) to complete a weekend sweep inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs took the opening set in commanding fashion 25-9 and then came away with wins of 25-18 and 25-16 in the second and third frames, respectively, to register the victory.

Ferris State received 16 kills from senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey to go with 10 apiece from sophomore middle hitter Ayanna Buckley and senior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman. In addition, senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer compiled eight kills in the FSU win.

FSU hit an impressive .394 overall with 46 kills and only seven errors on 99 total attacks. FSU also posted 52 digs, eight block assists and three solo blocks with four aces and nine service mistakes.

Along with the three players in double-figure kills, the Bulldogs received 11 digs from junior libero Danielle Dowd to go with 14 by freshman outside hitter Katie Placek. Junior setter Stephanie Sikorski compiled 39 assists and eight digs in the winning effort.

Hillsdale, which entered the weekend second overall in the GLIAC South Division standings, was led by Paige Vanderwall, who had eight kills overall. Brittany Jandasek added 14 digs and Taylor Bennett came up with 13 assists in the Charger setback.

Ferris State limited HC to a .058 attack figure as the Chargers netted 25 kills and had 19 errors on 103 attempts. They finished with 40 digs, two aces, two block assists and a solo block to go with five service errors in the contest.

The Bulldogs ran their record to 22-1 overall and stayed unbeaten atop the GLIAC with an 11-0 mark while HC fell to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Overall, Ferris State has now won 10-straight matches to date this year and the Bulldogs continued their dominance at home where they are now 11-0 at home this campaign. FSU has currently won 32 of its last 33 home encounters, including 20-straight, and owns a 57-7 mark at home dating back to the start of the 2011 season.

Ferris State hits the road this week for two matches in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Bulldogs square off against Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 30) in Houghton starting at 5 p.m. (ET) before facing Northern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 31) in Marquette at 4 p.m. (ET).
