#1 Bulldogs Fall In Final Upper Peninsula Match Against Northern Michigan

Big Raids, Mich. - The nationally top-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team finished up an Upper Peninsula road trip by dropping only its second match of the year at Northern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 31) by a 3-2 score.

The Bulldogs came in riding an 11-match winning streak, with the Wildcats coming in off of a wire-to-wire 3-2 loss to Grand Valley State the previous night.

Ferris State took the first set 25-23 before Northern Michigan roared back to life to take the second set 25-12. The Bulldogs rebounded to win the third set 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead in the match, but the Wildcats fought back to win the fourth set 25-21 and subsequently the fifth 15-8 to take the victory.

Attack numbers spelled the end of the 11-match win streak for Ferris State, as they compiled only a .061 mark over five sets. Consequently, Northern Michigan hit a solid .229 on the day and played spectacular defense.

The Wildcats finished with 18 total blocks on the day to the Bulldogs' 11 overall. Kayla Chosa finished with a match-high five block assists for the Wildcats.

Northern Michigan was led by an inspired effort from Madison Whitehead, who tallied 26 kills for the Wildcats. Chosa added 17 to help pace the offense.

Senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey led Ferris State with 13 kills on the day and was the Bulldogs' best hitter, swinging at a .110 clip for the Bulldogs.

Entering the day, Ferris State had only lost one total set in conference play this season, during a 3-1 victory over Grand Valley State on Sept. 29.

Ferris State only lost one total set in the calendar month of October entering play against Northern Michigan as well, during a 3-1 victory over McKendree on Oct. 16.

The loss moves the #1 Bulldogs to 23-2 on the season, who next have a road tilt against the Grand Valley State Lakers scheduled for Tuesday (Nov. 3) in Allendale starting at 7 p.m. (ET).

The GVSU match precedes Ferris State's return home for a GLIAC weekend schedule.

Home court has been kind to Ferris State. They are currently riding a 21-match home winning streak, and a 31-match regular season home winning streak. In their 21 consecutive home victories, Ferris State has a 66-4 record in total sets.

The Bulldogs will entertain Lake Superior State on Friday, Nov. 6, in a special 12 p.m. (ET) match and then host Northwood on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m.
