FSU Volleyball Sweeps Hillsdale For First GLIAC Victory Of Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad picked up its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win of the year as the Bulldogs swept Hillsdale 3-0 on the road Saturday (Sept. 17) in Hillsdale, Mich.

Ferris State scored a 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 win over the host Chargers as the Bulldogs improved to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC this campaign.

The loss was only the second of the season for Hillsdale, which fell to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in league action.

Ferris State posted a .195 attack figure for the afternoon, but also limited the Chargers to a .090 showing.

FSU was led by hitters Ayanna Buckley and Maria Kronner, who both totaled nine kills each in a balanced effort. Sophomore Katie Placek added eight kills with Aspen Stuedemann posting six kills for the Bulldogs.

Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski directed the attack with 33 assists and she also added 12 digs in the winning performance. Placek had a match-high 19 digs while Allyson Cappel posted 15 digs.

The Bulldogs recorded 39 kills overall to go with 60 digs and three service aces. FSU also tallied two solo blocks and 10 assists at the net. Cappel had a solo block and three assists with Kronner adding three assisted blocks.

Hillsdale was paced by Paige Vanderwall, who had nine kills. Jackie Langer added eight kills and Emily Lachmann recorded a team-high 12 digs.

The Chargers posted 31 kills with 53 digs, six aces, 12 block assists and two solo blocks in the setback.

Ferris State returns home to host Walsh in league action on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. The first league home match will begin with a special 12 p.m. (ET) start.
