Ferris State Pulls Out Five-Set Triumph In Ohio For Sixth-Straight Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad pulled out a hard-fought road win on Friday (Sept. 30) night as the Bulldogs recorded a 3-2 victory over the Lake Erie Storm in Painesville, Ohio.

FSU notched its sixth-straight win this season as the Bulldogs scored a 25-12, 24-26, 25-18, 21-25, 15-8 triumph in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tilt.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC while the Storm fell to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in league action.

Freshman hitter Allyson Cappel continued her impressive play for the Bulldogs as the reigning GLIAC Player of the Week tallied a team-best 15 kills in the victory while adding nine digs. 

FSU also received 13 kills from middle hitter Ayanna Buckley with sophomore hitter Katie Placek adding 11 kills and junior middle hitter Maria Kronner adding 10 more. Placek also contributed 16 digs in a double-double showing.

Ferris State senior setter Stephanie Sikorski paced FSU with 49 assists and 17 digs in the win while libero Lauren Reminga tallied 31 digs for the Bulldogs. Kaley Konjarevich added 15 digs in the match.

The Bulldogs posted a .176 attack figure for the night and produced 60 kills with 99 digs. The Bulldogs also had five service aces, 11 solo blocks and 10 block assists.

Bethany Fisher led Lake Erie with 13 kills and Morgan Briggs had a team-high 25 digs for the hosts.

Lake Erie was limited to a .110 attack figure and finished with 57 kills, 93 digs, seven solo blocks and two block assists. The Storm did not record an ace in the setback.

Ferris State will wrap up its weekend trip to Ohio on Saturday (Oct. 1) as the Bulldogs visit Ohio Dominican for a 5 p.m. (ET) encounter in Columbus, Ohio.
