Ferris State Makes Quick Work Of Ashland In GLIAC Volleyball Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad made quick work of Ashland on Friday (Oct. 7) night as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 sweep against the Eagles in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs recorded their eighth consecutive victory this season with a decisive 25-21, 25-16 and 25-21 triumph as they moved to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC this season.

Ferris State received 11 kills from freshman hitter Allyson Cappel along with 10 by sophomore Katie Placek in the victory. 

Overall, the Bulldogs hit only .168 with 32 kills in the match, but also recorded 47 digs, nine total blocks and three aces in the triumph.

FSU received 12 digs from Placek to go with 11 from Cappel and 10 by libero Lauren Reminga in notching the win. Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski compiled 27 assists while Reminga added two aces. Junior Maria Kronner posted four block assists and a solo swat at the net with four other Bulldogs also recording multiple blocks in the outing.

The Bulldogs limited AU to a .037 attack figure as the Eagles totaled 29 kills and 25 errors on 108 total attacks. They finished with 45 digs, six aces and four blocks in the setback while falling to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in conference action.

Ashland was led by Shelby Boycik, who had 10 kills. Casey Clark chipped in 12 digs and Kayla Pfeiffer had 15 assists.

Ferris State will wrap up its weekend homestand on Saturday (Oct. 8) as the Bulldogs host the Tiffin Dragons in league play starting at 3 p.m. (ET) inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.
