Ferris State Volleyball Runs Win Streak To 14-Straight Matches With Road Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 21st-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team pulled out a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Wayne State on the road in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon to run its winning streak to 14 consecutive matches.

The Bulldogs won the match in the Motor City with a close 15-13 triumph in the deciding set after rallying from a 2-1 deficit against the Warriors. FSU took the first set 25-18 before Wayne State responded with 25-20 and 30-28 wins in the second and third frames. The Bulldogs managed to win the fourth set 25-18 to force the fifth and final set.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the GLIAC. It completed a weekend road sweep in which FSU beat the top two teams in the GLIAC South Division. WSU fell to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play with the loss.

Freshman Allyson Cappel paced the Bulldogs with 16 kills and 10 digs in the league tilt. Meanwhile, Ayanna Buckley contributed 12 kills with Lauren Reminga posting 18 digs and Katie Placek chipping in 16 digs overall.

Ferris State posted a .161 attack figure as the Bulldogs compiled 55 kills on 174 total attacks with 27 errors. FSU also compiled 70 digs, eight aces and had eight service mistakes. The Bulldogs finished with 22 block assists and five solo blocks on a strong day at the net.

Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski directed the FSU attack and finished with 48 assists and nine digs. Both Maria Kronner and Mekayla Carey posted six block assists each with Kronner adding two solo hits at the net.

Wayne State was led by Emily Norscia with 16 kills. Both Hannah Moore and Mikayla Shell posted 10 kills each and Avery Punches had 11 overall. Moore netted a team-high 19 digs and Haley Tenelshof finished with 16 digs while Brittany Guldan totaled 43 assists.

The Warriors hit .135 overall with 61 kills and 37 errors on 178 attempts. They also totaled 79 digs, three aces and eight service errors while compiling 20 block assists and three solo efforts.

The Bulldogs will return home to host Michigan Tech on Friday, Oct. 28, with match time set for 8 p.m. (ET) inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.
