Ferris State Volleyball Secures GLIAC North Championship With Road Sweep Over SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University volleyball squad officially captured its third-straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Championship on Saturday (Nov. 5) as the Bulldogs topped Saginaw Valley State 3-0 in league play at University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs pulled out a 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 triumph to move to 23-5 overall and 14-1 in the GLIAC. The match pitted the top two teams in the division with SVSU falling to 17-9 overall and 10-5 in conference play with only two regular-season matches remaining.

Ferris State was led by freshman hitter Allyson Cappel, who finished with 14 kills in the victory. Ayanna Buckley added 11 kills while libero Lauren Reminga totaled 18 digs and sophomore Katie Placek finished with 12 digs. Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski posted 35 assists in the win.

The Bulldogs hit .188 overall with 43 kills and 19 errors on 128 total attacks. They also compiled 57 digs, 12 block assists, five aces and two solo blocks in the triumph.

Saginaw Valley State was led by the trio of Kennedy Marker, Andrea Brigham and Kaylee Schmitt as all three netted seven kills apiece. Both Abbie Toland and Brigham posted 11 digs each with Kelly Vellucci compiling 28 assists.

SVSU was limited to a .108 attack figure with 34 kills and 21 errors on 120 attempts. The Cardinals had 52 digs, eight block assists and two aces in the setback.

The win was FSU's 19th-straight overall this season. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 20th nationally and are the highest-ranked team in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.

FSU returns home to play its final two league regular-season matches in Big Rapids at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. FSU hosts Hillsdale on Friday (Nov. 11) at 7 p.m. (ET) before entertaining Northwood on Saturday (Nov. 12) starting at 5 p.m. (ET).
