#8 Bulldogs Split Two Matches To Wrap Up Colorado Premier Challenge

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 8th-ranked Ferris State University volleyball squad split a pair of matches to wrap up the Colorado Premier Challenge on Saturday (Sept. 9) in Denver, Colo.

The Bulldogs topped Central Missouri 3-1 in morning action before falling to third-ranked Lewis (Ill.) 3-0 in an evening tilt.

With the split, the Bulldogs finished the prestigious weekend event with a 2-2 mark and both losses came to top five teams in the country.

In the opening match of the day, the Bulldogs dropped the first set to Central Missouri 25-23 before rallying by winning 25-14 in the second, 25-19 in the third and 25-14 in the fourth frame.

FSU hit .323 overall against CMU and the Bulldogs were paced by both Allyson Cappel and Courtney Brewer, who both had 14 kills each. Senior libero Lauren Reminga added 16 digs while Cappel chipped in with 14 overall. Maeve Grimes totaled 51 assists for Ferris State.

In the nightcap, Lewis pulled out a close 25-22 win in set one and matched the score in the second frame before beating FSU 25-18 in the third. The Flyers limited FSU to a .172 hitting figure.

Cappel led Ferris State with 10 kills against Lewis while Grimes had 29 assists in addition to a team-high 15 digs. Freshman Katie O'Connell chipped in with 14 digs while Reminga produced 11 overall.

FSU will open conference action next Friday, Sept. 15, at Purdue Northwest starting at 8 p.m. (ET).
