#8 Bulldog Volleyball Claims First-Ever Win Over Purdue Northwest To Open GLIAC Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 3-1 triumph over league newcomer Purdue Northwest on Friday (Sept. 16) night in Hammond, Ind.

The nationally eighth-ranked Bulldogs dropped the first set 31-29, but rallied back to claim the next three frames by scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-16 to seal the win and move to 7-2 on the year.

Sophomore Allyson Cappel had a big night for the Bulldogs with a match-high 21 kills and seven digs. Senior middle hitters Ayanna Buckley and Maria Kronner both chipped in with 10 kills each in the triumph.

Ferris State also got 48 assists from sophomore setter Maeve Grimes to go with 16 digs from senior libero Lauren Reminga. Junior Katie Placek chipped in with 12 digs in the win.

The Bulldogs hit .341 overall and came away with 58 kills, 52 digs and 12 service aces in the win.

Purdue Northwest was led by both Jenna Pasko and Gabrielle Martin, who totaled 13 kills apiece. Martin also added a team-high 12 digs while Brooke Ahrens distributed 41 assists.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Sept. 17) as they visit Davenport for a 5 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Grand Rapids.
