#8 Ferris State Volleyball Suffers First GLIAC Loss In Five-Set Tilt

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally eighth-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team fell to the Wayne State University Warriors 3-2 on Saturday (Oct 7) night at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) play. 

The Bulldogs came out strong by winning the first set 25-14, then fell behind after dropping the second and third frames with scores of 25-21 and 25-22. FSU won the fourth set 25-21 before the deciding fifth set went to the Warriors by a score of 15-12. 

Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Cappel led the Bulldogs with 21 kills in the match. Just behind her were senior middle hitters Maria Kronner and Ayanna Buckley with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Overall, FSU totaled 56 kills and posted a .160 hitting percentage for the match. 

Senior libero Lauren Reminga led Ferris State defensively with 24 digs with junior outside hitter Katie Placek and Cappel both totaling 15 digs apiece. The Bulldogs compiled 82 digs for the match. 

Redshirt sophomore setter Maeve Grimes recorded 47 assists, 12 digs, a kill and a block for the match. Kronner led the team in blocks with eight and Placek was close behind with seven blocks. The team totaled 22 assisted blocks and three solo blocks for the match. 

Wayne State junior outside hitter Hailey Richardson and senior middle hitter Michelle Asiedu both had 14 kills for the Warriors. They totaled 58 kills, 93 digs and six aces. 

The Bulldogs hit the road next weekend as they take part in the Midwest Region Crossover Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14, in Aurora, Ill. Offiical matchups will be announced soon.

With Saturday's setback, the Bulldogs had their eight-match win streak snapped and now own a 14-3 overall record and an 8-1 league mark.
