Ferris State Volleyball Splits Two Outings On Day One At Midwest Region Crossover

Aurora, Ill. - The nationally-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the 2017 Midwest Region Crossover on Friday (Oct. 13) in Aurora, Ill.

The Bulldogs fell to the Hillsdale Chargers 3-1 in early afternoon play before sweeping the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 3-0 in the second match at the Great Lakes Center in the nation's largest collegiate volleyball event.

The Bulldogs won a set against the Chargers, but Hillsdale prevailed by scores of 26-24, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-20 for the 3-1 win.

Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Cappel posted an outstanding 24 kills and a .333 hitting percentage for the match. Senior middle hitter Maria Kronner and sophomore outside hitter Courtney Brewer both totaled nine kills in the setback.

Senior libero Lauren Reminga totaled 22 digs for the match as well as four assists. Cappel and Brewer also came in with 13 and 10 digs apiece, respectively.

The Bulldogs received 45 assists from sophomore setter Maeve Grimes along with seven digs.

Overall, Ferris State compiled 56 kills, 52 assists, 65 digs and seven aces for the match while the Chargers just barely pulled ahead with 64 kills, 61 assists, 89 digs and four aces.

The Bulldogs finished their night with a win against the Greyhounds with by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17.

Cappel led the team in kills again with 20 kills and a .516 hitting percentage for the match. Senior middle hitter Ayanna Buckley compiled 12 kills with Brewer close behind with nine kills.

Reminga totaled 19 dig in the win. Junior outside hitter Katie Placek and Cappel had seven digs each for the match.

Grimes compiled 44 assists for the match as well as three aces, three digs and a kill.

The Bulldogs pulled ahead in this match with a total of 51 kills, a .384 hitting percentage, 48 assists, five aces and 39 digs. The Greyhounds only had 32 kills and a .198 hitting percentage with 31 assists, two aces and 33 digs total.

Ferris State wraps up the Midwest Region Crossover against the nation's current #1 team in the Lewis University Flyers on Saturday (Oct. 14) at 1 p.m. (ET) in Aurora, Ill. The Bulldogs record now stands at 15-4 for the season.
