Ferris State Volleyball Drops Opening Match In Upper Peninsula

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team fell to the Northern Michigan University Wildcats on Friday (Nov. 10) afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play in Marquette.

The Bulldogs fell in a close match against the Wildcats by scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 27-29 and 12-15 in opening their trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Cappel led the team with 14 kills. Junior outside hitter Courtney Brewer was close behind her with 12 kills. Meanwhile, junior outside hitter Katie Placek and senior middle hitter Ayanna Buckley each had 11 kills for the match. 

Sophomore setter Maeve Grimes posted 49 assists in the setback.

The Bulldogs also received five total blocks from senior middle hitter Maria Kronner while Cappel, Buckley, and Placek each had two apiece.

Reminga had 20 digs while Cappel had 12 and Grimes posted 10 for the match. Placek also had nine digs and Brewer chipped in seven. 

Ferris State compiled 56 kills with a .198 hitting percentage, 54 assists, 62 digs, 13 total blocks and seven aces.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats pulled ahead with 65 kills to go with a .217 hitting percentage, 54 assists, 71 digs, 26 total blocks and six aces. 

The Bulldogs dropped to 19-8 overall and 12-3 in the GLIAC with the setback.

Ferris State will square off against the Michigan Tech Huskies in the regular-season finale on Saturday (Nov. 11) starting at 3 p.m. (ET) in Houghton.

FSU and Michigan Tech are both tied for the GLIAC lead at 12-3 in conference play heading into Saturday's showdown to wrap up the regular season.
