Ferris State Volleyball Advances To NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals By Beating McKendree

Romeoville, Ill. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team advanced to the regional semifinals in the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament after a 3-1 win over the McKendree (Ill.) Bearcats on Thursday (Nov. 30) evening in Romeoville, Ill.

The Bulldogs came out strong and won the first set 25-16 before falling 25-22 in the second frame. However, FSU rebounded to claim the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-11 and pull out the triumph.

Unofficially, sophomore outside hitter Allyson Cappel led the team with 19 kills and a .386 hitting percentage while junior outside hitter Courtney Brewer had 12 kills in the victory.

Sophomore setter Maeve Grimes compiled 42 assists for the match along with five blocks and two aces.

Senior libero Lauren Reminga totaled 19 digs while junior outside hitter Katie Placek had 14 digs and Cappel recorded 10 overall.

With the win, the Bulldogs will next square off against tournament host Lewis (Ill.) in the semifinals on Friday (Dec. 1) night with first serve set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) inside LU's Neil Carey Arena. The winner will advance to Saturday's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship match.

The Bulldogs are making their seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the 22nd overall in program history. FSU has now advanced to at least the regional semifinals each of the last seven years.

Ferris State improved to 24-7 overall with Thursday's victory.
