Ferris State Volleyball Moves Up To #11 In The Nation This Week In AVCA Rankings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad has climbed two spots back to #11 in the nation in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Rankings after starting league action perfect over the weekend.

The Bulldogs, who are now 7-3 on the year, topped Wisconsin-Parkside and Purdue Northwest in identical 3-0 sweeps at home in Big Rapids on Friday and Saturday inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena in their first two league outings.

The four-time defending GLIAC Champions compiled 666 total points this week in moving up from #13 in last week's poll. FSU had been as high as #4 in the nation following the first week of the campaign.

In this week's poll, Nebraska-Kearney tops the charts with 1,165 points and 34 first-place mentions. Northern State is second with 1,104 points followed by defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul in third (1,089). Palm Beach Atlantic (974) and Lewis (966) round out the top five overall.

The second five consists of Minnesota Duluth (911), Southwest Minnesota State (885), Cal State San Bernardino (874), Central Missouri (784) and West Florida (712) in front of FSU.

The Bulldogs are the only GLIAC member school found in the top 25 this week, but both Northern Michigan (104) and Michigan Tech (14) are receiving votes.

This week, Ferris State begins a three-match road stretch on Tuesday (Sept. 11) evening with a 7 p.m. (ET) GLIAC visit to Northwood in Midland. FSU then ventures to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend to face Northern Michigan on Friday (Sept. 14) and Michigan Tech on Saturday (Sept. 15).
