Ferris State Volleyball Claims Sixth-Straight Win To Stay Perfect In Conference Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally seventh-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team swept the Lake Superior State Lakers on Friday (Sept. 21) by a score of 3-0 to stay perfect in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Complex.

In the special school day contest, Ferris State took out LSSU in straight-sets by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-17 for the victory.

Junior outside hitter Allyson Cappel led the Bulldogs with 13 kills on the day while junior middle hitter Mekayla Carey added seven kills in a balanced effort.

Defensively, senior libero Katie Placek had 19 digs while Cappel tallied 11 for FSU. Junior defensive specialist Kayla Rosman and setter Maeve Grimes each had 10 in the contest. Grimes dished out 30 assists.

The Bulldogs hit .157 overall with 39 kills and 19 mistakes on 127 total attacks while also producing 56 digs, seven blocks and five aces.

Lake Superior State received a team-high 10 kills from Kelly Walter with Paige Gotham totaling 14 digs and Lauren Lukasik notching 18 assists. LSSU hit only .067 with 31 kills and 23 errors on 119 attempts. The Lakers also compiled 63 digs with eight blocks and three aces, but had seven service mistakes.

The Bulldogs improved to 11-3 overall this year and have now won their last six matches in a row and own a perfect 6-0 GLIAC mark. FSU also is unbeaten (7-0) at home this year to date.

Ferris State hosts Saginaw Valley State to wrap up the weekend homestand on Saturday (Sept. 22) with match time set for 3 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
