Seventh-Ranked Bulldog Volleyball Caps Perfect Weekend With Victory Over SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. -The nationally 7th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team defeated Saginaw Valley State in four sets on Saturday (Sept. 22) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. 

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 set lead with a 25-12 win before the Cardinals tied it up with a 25-23 second set win. Ferris State took over from there with back-to-back set wins (26-24, 25-12) to claim the victory, improving to 12-3 (7-0 GLIAC) on the year. 

Junior Middle hitter Mekayla Carey led the team with 15 kills while also adding five digs. Senior outside hitter Katie Placek led the Bulldogs with 18 digs while junior outside hitter Allyson Cappel added 17 digs to go along with her 11 kills. 

Sophomore outside hitter Katie O'connell also put in a solid effort for the Bullldogs, tallying 13 kills and digs apiece. 

Junior setter Maeve Grimes also tallied 13 digs while leading the team with 51 assists. 

Saginaw Valley State was led by Sarah Tabit, who tallied 17 kills while sister Hannah Tabit led the team with 37 assists. Abbie Toland paced the team with 16 digs in the loss. 

The Bulldogs return to action when they head south to face off against Davenport University at the DU Student Center where the Panthers are undefeated this season (4-0), next Friday, Sept. 28. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET).
