#5 Ferris State Volleyball Closes Midwest Region Crossover With Close Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally fifth-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad had its 12-match win streak come to a halt on Saturday (Oct. 13) as the Bulldogs fell to Drury (Mo.) in a tight 3-2 match while wrapping up the 2018 Midwest Regional Crossover in Indianapolis.

The Panthers won the opening frame 25-19 before FSU rallied for a 25-23 triumph in the second set. After Drury on the third 25-17, FSU responded with an identical 25-17 win in the fourth before the Panthers closed it out with a 15-11 triumph in the finale.

Ferris State fell to 18-4 overall with the loss while Drury improved to 20-3 on the year with the win.

FSU got 24 kills and 12 digs from sophomore outside hitter Katie O'Connell along with 15 kills by junior hitter Courtney Brewer. FSU's Mekayla Carey added 10 kills with Allyson Cappel notching nine overall.

Senior libero Katie Placek led the defensive charge with 27 digs while Cappel had 15 and Kayla Rosman added 10 in addition to the 12 from O'Connell.

Ferris State hit a solid .258 overall and came up with 66 kills, 86 digs, eight block assists and two solo hits at the net. From the service line, the Bulldogs netted two aces and six errors.

Drury was led by Emmalee Chrest's team-high 16 kills. Both Taylor Forth and Evan Larson added 12 each. Bree Schmidt totaled 22 digs with Paige Perry contributing 16 digs.

The Panthers compiled a .254 attack figure with 75 kills, 93 digs, 12 block assists and two solo blocks. They also benefited from four service aces.

Ferris State returns home to host Northwood in GLIAC play on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
