#10 Ferris State Beats SVSU In Close Road Decision To Stay Atop GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad, which is ranked 10th nationally, kept its impressive play going as the Bulldogs beat Saginaw Valley State 3-2 on the road in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday evening in University Center.

With the win, FSU stayed perfect in the GLIAC at 13-0 overall and now owns a 20-4 mark to date this year.

The region's second-ranked Bulldogs won the opening set 25-14 before SVSU rallied for a 25-19 win in the second. FSU took the third frame 25-17, but again the Cardinals responded to take set four 25-23. However, in the fifth, the Bulldogs earned the win with a 15-9 decision.

A apir of Bulldogs both had 14 kills each in the match with sophomore Katie O'Connell and freshman Audrey Bellina totaling 14 each. Junior hitter Allyson Cappel had 13 in the win.

Defensively, both O'Connell and senior libero Katie Placek totaled 25 digs each with Cappel totaling 12 for FSU. Bulldog junior setter Maeve Grimes totaled 50 assists.

Ferris State posted a .198 hitting figure with 56 kills and 23 errors on 167 total attacks. FSU had 85 digs with four aces, two solo blocks and 16 block assists.

Sarah Tabit paced SVSU with 19 kills and Olivia Dean totaled 12 in the match. Abbie Toland had 20 digs for the Cardinals.

SVSU hit only .120 for the outing with 58 kills and 36 attack mistakes. The Cardinals finished with 80 digs, 16 block assists and three aces.

Ferris State visits Lake Superior State on Saturday (Oct. 27) for a 2 p.m. (ET) league match in Sault Ste. Marie.
