Ferris State Volleyball Captures Fifth-Straight GLIAC Tourney Championship!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally sixth-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad captured its fifth consecutive GLIAC Tournament Championship with a decisive 3-0 sweep over Davenport on Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs won a fifth-straight crown by beating the sixth-seeded Panthers 25-20, 25-16 and 25-22 for the triumph.

With the win, FSU improved to 25-4 overall and will earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tourney set for Nov. 15-17 at a site to be determined. The Bulldogs, who were seeded second in the region this past week, will learn their postseason fate during the NCAA D2 Selection Show on Sunday night at 10 p.m. (ET) at NCAA.com.

Before a home crowd, Ferris State improved to 16-0 in Big Rapids this season with a big postseason performance to become the first team in league history to win five-straight GLIAC regular season and tournament titles in the same years.

Sophomore Katie O'Connell led the way with a team-high 13 kills and 12 digs in the victory while both junior outside hitter Allyson Cappel and junior middle hitter Mekayla Carey had 12 kills apiece. Cappel added 11 digs.

The Bulldogs got a match-high 31 digs from senior libero Katie Placek along with 10 from fellow senior Kayla Rosman. Junior setter Maeve Grimes added 41 assists in the victory.

Ferris State hit .261 overall and produced 75 digs, 49 kills, four aces, four solo blocks and two block assists in the win. Junior Courtney Brewer led FSU at the net with three solo blocks.

Hayley Kreiger paced Davenport with 12 kills and Jenn Kay Vander Meer had 19 digs.

DU was limited to a .142 attack figure and finished with 59 digs, 34 kills, 16 block assists and three aces.
