Bulldog Volleyball Completes Sweep In Upper Peninsula With Win In Marquette

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State Volleyball completed a sweep in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend play in the Upper Peninsula as the Bulldogs beat Northern Michigan 3-1 on Saturday (Nov. 9) in Marquette.

The Bulldogs took over first place in the GLIAC with a 25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 25-21 triumph against the Wildcats.

With the win, Ferris State is now 13-2 overall in league action and leads Michigan Tech by a half-match in the conference standings with a one-match edge over Ashland following weekend play.

In Saturday's victory, the Bulldogs hit an impressive .302 overall and tallied 60 kills on 149 attempts with only 15 errors. FSU also compiled 60 digs along with six service aces, eight block assists and three solo blocks.

Senior Allyson Cappel led the Bulldogs with 18 kills while senior Courtney Brewer notched 13 kills and junior Katie O'Connell contributed 12 kills overall.

Both Cappel and libero Nina Gorgijevska posted 13 digs with O'Connell adding 12 digs and Brewer chipping in with 11 digs. Meanwhile, senior setter Maeve Grimes posted 49 assists.

Northern Michigan was led by Lizzy Stark, who had 18 kills. The Wildcats hit .286 with 58 kills, 61 digs, 16 block assists and two solo blocks, but they also had 10 service mistakes.

Ferris State will visit Northwood for its final regular-season match on Friday, Nov. 15, starting at 7 p.m. (ET) in Midland.
