Ferris State Volleyball Claims At Least Share Of Sixth-Straight GLIAC Championship!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team claimed at least a share of its sixth consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship and secured the top seed for the league's postseason tournament by beating Northwood 3-0 on Friday (Nov. 15) night in the regular-season finale in Midland.

The Bulldogs stormed to a 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 victory to move to 22-5 overall this season and 14-2 in GLIAC play. FSU holds a half-match lead over Michigan Tech and beat the Huskies twice this year heading into MTU's final match of the season on Saturday.

With the win, the Bulldogs will be the number one seed for the league tourney by virtue of the two head-to-head wins over the Huskies and host a league quarterfinal on Wednesday (Nov. 20) at 7 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena. The opponent will be announced following the conclusion of regular-season play on Saturday night.

Senior outside hitter Allyson Cappel led the way for the Bulldogs with a match-high 23 kills. FSU senior Courtney Brewer added nine kills and eight digs.

Meanwhile, libero Nina Gorgijevska totaled 20 digs with the Bulldogs also getting 17 from junior hitter Katie O'Connell. Senior setter Maeve Grimes notched 39 assists and nine digs in the win.

Overall, the Bulldogs posted a .298 hitting figure and compiled 62 digs to go with five service aces.

FSU also limited Northwood to a .137 attack percentage and the Timberwolves finished with only 34 kills in addition to 54 digs and four aces. They had two solo blocks and four assisted plays at the net.

With a win on Wednesday night in quarterfinal-round action, the Bulldogs would also host the GLIAC Semifinals and Finals set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23-24.
