Ferris State Volleyball Sweeps LSSU In Road Opener

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad left no doubt on Friday (Feb. 26) as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 road sweep over Lake Superior State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Bulldogs won the opening frame 25-15 and then took a 25-18 win in the second before capping off the road victory with a 25-23 triumph in the third to move to 2-1 on the year.

The quartet of senior Katie O'Connell along with Morgan Ross, Keona Salesman and Samantha Hermann all had nine kills each in leading a balanced Bulldog attack.

Ferris State hit .213 for the afternoon and limited LSSU to a .067 attack figure.

Freshman setter Kaylee Maat had 31 assists in the win with libero Nina Gorgijevska compiling a squad-best 25 digs for the Bulldogs. O'Connell added 12 digs and both Maat and Brooke Norder netted nine each for FSU.

Overall, Ferris State had 69 digs and the Bulldogs posted eight service aces along with a pair of solo blocks. Maat had five service aces for FSU with Gorgijevska compiling three.

The Lakers were paced by Camdyn Odykirk, who had six kills. Halle Grulke notched 14 digs.

The two teams will meet again in the weekend finale on Saturday (Feb. 27) with match time set for 1 p.m. (ET) in Sault Ste. Marie.
