Dawgs Take Down Lions To Stay Unbeaten

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad moved to 2-0 on the year as they defeated the Saint Leo (Fla.) Lions 3-1 at the Bulldogs' annual home invitational on Friday (Sept. 3) afternoon at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

Ferris State won 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 25-18 to stay unbeaten on the young season over the Lions. The Bulldogs swung away at a .204 attack rate and held the Lions to a .074 mark offensively on the day.

For the Bulldogs, freshman outside hitter Keona Salesman fired 16 kills to lead the Bulldogs and hit .378 on the afternoon. She added a pair of blocks and five digs to go with three service aces in the match. Senior outside hitter Katie O'Connell had 14 kills and a .282 attack percentage with 13 digs and five total blocks as well.

Freshman setter Kaylee Maat had 45 assists for Ferris State while senior libero Nina Gorgijevska had 24 digs to lead all Bulldogs.

For the Lions, Ashley Quero had 11 kills while setter Skylar Singleton had 27 helpers and 13 digs. Payton Bellano had 21 digs to lead the Lions on the afternoon.

Ferris State wraps up day two of its home invitational on Friday evening as the Bulldogs host Missouri-St. Louis at 6 p.m. (ET).
