Bulldog Volleyball Handles Purdue Northwest In GLIAC Home Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad notched its third consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win on Friday (Oct. 1) night as the Bulldogs dominated visiting Purdue Northwest in a 3-0 sweep at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

FSU tallied eight service aces in winning the first set 25-6 and then captured a 25-14 win in the second followed by a 25-8 triumph in the third frame to make it a quick night.

Freshman Claire Nowicki led a balanced Bulldog attack with 10 kills in the victory while Kira Merkle added nine kills. Senior Katie O'Connell finished with six kills and overall a total of nine different players recorded at least one kill for FSU.

The Bulldogs were led defensively by libero Nina Gorgijevska's team-high 14 digs. Brooke Norder added 12 digs with Kaylee Maat compiling 36 assists to go with eight digs. Merkle also had four aces and Maat totaled three for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State hit an impressive .337 for the evening and limited the Pride to a -.112 attack figure. Purdue Northwest finished with 20 attack errors compared to only 10 kills on 89 attempts while FSU had 43 kills and only nine hitting miscues on 101 attacks.

FSU also owned a 55-42 edge in total digs and compiled six blocks to two for the visitors. Ferris State finished with 10 service aces while the Pride had only two.

With the win, FSU proved to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC. PNW fell to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Ferris State will host Parkside on Sunday (Oct. 3) with match time set for 1 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
