Ferris State Volleyball Caps Weekend Road Sweep With Win At Wayne State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad kept its momentum going as the Bulldogs recorded their sixth-straight victory with a 3-0 sweep over Wayne State on Saturday (Oct. 9) afternoon in Detroit.

The Bulldogs took the match 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 to earn the win and complete a weekend road sweep. The shutout triumph was the Bulldogs' fifth in a row and sixth consecutive win overall.

Freshman Keona Salesman paced the Bulldogs with 12 kills in the win while senior hitter Katie O'Connell totaled 11 kills and nine digs. Meanwhile, Olivia Henneman-Dallape contributed 10 kills for FSU.

Ferris State also got 17 digs from senior libero Nina Gorgijevska in addition to the nine from O'Connell and seven apiece by both setter Kaylee Maat and senior Brooke Norder. Maat totaled 35 assists.

Overall, Ferris State hit .367 for the afternoon, coming up with 44 kills and only eight attack errors on 98 attempts. FSU had 46 digs to go with seven service aces and came up with 14 block assists.

Wayne State was limited to a .173 attack figure and the Warriors had no players reach double-digits in kills. Taylor Wagner led WSU with nine kills and seven digs. Maddy Benoit added 10 digs and Kamryn Duffield posted 33 assists.

The Bulldogs improved to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC with the win.

FSU will take part in the annual Midwest Region Crossover slated for next weekend (Oct. 15-16) in Hammond, Ind.
