Ferris State Volleyball Caps Off Weekend Sweep By Beating Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team finished off a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend sweep by beating Michigan Tech 3-1 on Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs stayed on top of the league standings, improving to 10-7 overall and 8-1 in conference play with the victory. It came on the heels of an identical 3-1 triumph over Northern Michigan on Friday night at home as FSU completed the season sweep of both NMU and MTU this weekend.

Michigan Tech garnered a 25-16 win in the opening set, but Ferris State answered by winining the next three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-17 for the win.

FSU finished with a .231 attack figure and limited the Huskies to a .075 showing in the match. Overall, Ferris State had 48 kills and 14 attack errors on 147 attempts.

Sophomore Claire Nowicki led the Bulldogs with 13 kills while adding 14 digs. FSU also got 12 kills from Olivia Henneman-Dallape in addition to nine kills by Syann Fairfield. Freshman Emma Bleecher chipped in eight kills and produced 13 digs.

Meanwhile, libero Leah Bylut compiled a match-high 26 digs with sophomore setter Kaylee Maat producing 46 assists overall. Bylut added three service aces and Maat had two in the win.

The Bulldogs finished the match with a total of 77 digs while adding 24 block assists and a solo block at the net. Ferris State also totaled six aces, but had 11 service errors.

Makena Wesol led Michigan Tech with 10 kills while Carissa Beyer paced the Huskies with 18 digs.

Michigan Tech compiled 43 kills and had 31 attack errors on 159 attempts. MTU finished with four block assists and a single ace to go with four service errors and 72 digs in the setback.

Ferris State will visit Northwood for a non-league tilt on Tuesday (Oct. 4) with match time set for 7 p.m. (ET) in Midland.
