Ferris State Volleyball Sweeps Purdue Northwest To Setup Saturday Home Showdown

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 17th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad stayed perfect in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday (Oct. 20) night, posting a 3-0 sweep over Purdue Northwest in league action at Bulldog Arena.

FSU improved to 17-4 overall this season and 10-0 in the GLIAC with the win, setting up a first-place showdown with rival Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers are currently a game back of FSU at 9-1 in the conference.

In Friday's win, the Bulldogs got off to a quick start with a 25-12 triumph in set one followed by identical 25-20 victories in each of the next two frames to put the match away.

Ferris State posted a .203 attack figure in the victory, compiling 31 kills with 15 errors on 79 attempts. FSU also finished with 35 digs and had 18 block assists with three solo blocks in addition to eight service aces.

A balanced FSU lineup was paced by Claire Nowicki with eight kills. Kaylee Maat finished with 21 assists while adding 10 digs and three aces. FSU also got seven digs from Nowicki in addition to five block assists and a solo block by Emily May.

Lauren Sanders led Purdue Northwest with six kills as did Erica Brohm. Livia Thomsen added eight digs for PNW, which hit .093 for the night. The Pride had 31 kills with 22 attack errors on 97 tries while adding 29 digs, 10 block assists and a solo block. Purdue Northwest also finished with 12 service errors.

Saturday's showdown between FSU and GVSU is slated for a 3 p.m. (ET) start inside Bulldog Arena. Ferris State then hosts Lake Superior State on Monday (Oct. 23) at noon followed by a Wednesday (Oct. 25) night home match against Wayne State.
