FSU Cross Country Heads To Louisville
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and
women's cross country teams will take part in the ninth annual
Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic this Saturday (Oct. 2) at
Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
The event will be hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission with
nearly 100 teams from all levels of collegiate competition involved
in the field. Races will be contested in six different
divisions with three each for men and women.
The Bulldog women's squad will take part in the top "Gold" division
race at 10:15 a.m. (EDT) and compete against the likes of NCAA
Division I powers such as Georgia Tech, Miami (Fla.) and Missouri
along with nationally-ranked Division II schools including rival
Grand Valley State.
Meanwhile, the FSU men's team will compete in the "Blue" second
division race, which is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (EDT) start.
The course will include hills with an overall slight rolling
terrain.
Tom Sawyer State Park will also serve later this year as the site
of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships (Nov. 20)
and the 2010 NCAA-II National Championships (Dec. 4).
Louisville's Tom Sawyer State Park has been the site of five NAIA National Cross Country Championships, the 2007 BIG EAST Conference Championships along with the 2006, 2007 and 2009 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships.
The state park will also be the home to the 2010 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship in addition to this year's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships and the NCAA Division II National Championships.
The Bulldog women's cross country team presently is ranked 10th nationally in this week's (Sept. 29) United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Poll along with second in the Midwest Regional Rankings behind GVSU.
