Ferris Runs Well At Large Michigan State Meet

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the non-scoring Michigan State Spartan Invitational on Friday (Sept. 16) at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

The event featured runners from Division I schools such as MSU, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Kent State and Miami (Ohio) in addition to rival Grand Valley State along with other Division II and smaller schools.

Senior Tina Muir of the FSU women's team took third place in a competitive field with a time of 20:43 on the 6K course in leading the Bulldog women's squad.  Unattached runner Rachel Patterson won the race in 20:16 followed by Carlie Green of MSU with a time of 20:33 overall. A total of 231 runners took part in the women's field.

Sophomore Samantha Johnson took eighth place (21:01) with junior Alyssa Osika coming in 17th overall (21:28) for the Bulldogs.  Junior Anna Rudd also placed in the top 25 as she finished 23rd (21:39) overall.

On the men's side, junior Ryan Chute paced FSU by placing 34th overall (25:28) among 257 competitors in the 8K event.

Freshman Spencer Gerber came in next at 73rd (26:06) followed by sophomore David Silversmith in 74th (26:06) and senior Alex Best at 79th (26:11).

The men's race was won by Eastern Michigan's Terefe Ejigu (24:23).

Over 4,800 athletes and 300 teams, covering college, high school and middle school age groups competed this afternoon, setting a new high mark for participants at the MSU event.

The Bulldog teams will next take part in the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 1 at Louisville, Ky.
