Cross Country's Tina Muir Claims GLIAC Award

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University women's cross country standout Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) has been chosen as this season's first recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Women's Athletic of the Week Award.

Muir won the women's 5K race at last Saturday's (Sept. 10) Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational held at FSU's Katke Golf Course. She clocked 17:50.38 in winning the 83-runner field in her first race of the 2011 season.  Her performance helped Ferris State place four runners in the top seven overall at the non-scoring competition.

The Ferris  men's and women's cross country teams hosted the annual Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational and the meet included both collegiate women's and men's divisions along with high school boys and girls races.

The Ferris State men's and women's cross country teams are guided by former Bulldog standout and current fourth-year head coach Steve Picucci. The Bulldog women were ranked seventh nationally in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Preseason National Rankings along with second in the Midwest Region.

The Bulldogs next will take part in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational on Friday (Sept. 16) in East Lansing, Mich.
