Ferris State Cross Country Races Well At Lansing CC Invitational To Open Weekend Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams got back to action on Friday (Oct. 4) as selected squad members competed in the 2019 Lansing Community College Invitational in Lansing.

The Bulldog women's squad placed fourth overall of 19 schools while the men's team finished sixth in the competition. The meet gave several of FSU's younger runners a chance to perform with the rest of the Bulldog teams slated to race in other action this weekend.

FSU totaled 153 points on the women's side in placing behind Oakland (44), Hillsdale (69) and Siena Heights (115). The Bulldogs' top five runners all scored in the top 50 overall.

Sydney Dawes paced Ferris State as she placed 23rd overall in a time of 19:32.3 on the 5K course. Meanwhile, Katrina Droski placed 40th (20:04.6) with Sydney Kubiak right behind in 41st place (20:14.8). The Bulldogs' Madison Hammer came in 46th (20:21.7) with Megan Dopheide placing 69th (20:55.1).

In the men's action, the Bulldogs' top five runners as well all placed among the top 50 scorers as FSU finished with 175 points in the 22-team field.

The Bulldogs were led by Dan Hardesty, who placed 39th in 27:17.8 on the 8K course. Nick Dennison was 49th (27:37.4) with Ethan Israels 61st (27:59.4), Bryce Hegenauer 68th (28:09.6) and Casey Bouman 78th (28:26.5). More than 200 runners competed in the men's field.

Ferris State's teams will have representatives in the prestigious Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday (Oct. 5) in Louisville, Ky.
