Big Rapids, Mich. - A total of 73 Ferris State University student-athletes have achieved Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic & All-Academic Excellence Team honors for the recently-completed 2018 fall athletics campaign as announced by the league office and presented by Meijer.
The 73 Bulldog student-athletes represent six varsity programs, including football, volleyball, women's soccer, women's tennis, women's cross country and men's cross country.
Overall, a total of 873 student-athletes achieved all-academic recognition from across the 12 conference member institutions this past academic year.
Ferris State had 31 student-athletes tabbed to the GLIAC All-Academic Team and another 42 who received GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognition.
The Bulldogs' total honorees included 26 individuals from the women's socceer program, which represented every eligible student-athlete on one of the two selected teams. Another 20 honorees came from the national finalist football program with the Bulldogs' also garnering 10 mentions in women's cross country, seven from men's cross country, six by the conference champion volleyball squad in addition to four from women's tennis.
Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first year transfer student. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0. Grades are based on marks from the fall semester of 2018.
