Ferris State University announced the appointment of FSU alum Kevin Bunce as the school's new advancement officer for athletics in September 2019.

A 2014 Ferris State graduate and Big Rapids native, Bunce previously worked as Ferris State's Coordinator for Alumni Relations since 2015. He transitioned into the role vacated by Will Goode, who accepted a similar position at Arizona State University.

As the Athletic Advancement Officer in the school's University Advancement & Marketing division, Bunce works closely with all 17 of Ferris State's varsity athletics programs, focusing on major gifts in support of the Bulldogs.

"We're looking forward to working with Kevin as we continue to move forward," said FSU Athletics Director Perk Weisenburger. "He'll play a valuable role leading our fundraising efforts and believe his strong ties to Ferris State and the Big Rapids community will be an important asset."

As the Coordinator for Alumni Relations, Bunce played a major role in the marketing and execution of event programming for the 150,000 member Ferris State Alumni Association. He served as advisor to the Student Alumni Gold Club, a 60-member student philanthropy group. In addition, he was the department's social media manager and content generator for FSU Alumni Association platforms and served as a representative and collaborator to campus departments, committees and co-sponsored projects throughout the university.

"I am excited to join the Ferris State Athletics Department as we aim to transfer our athletes success on the field and in the classroom into updated facilities, scholarship opportunities and other operational needs of our athletic programs," Bunce said. "Our mission is clear for all involved in Ferris State Athletics – to continue the recent success of all of our programs well into the future by way of top-tier talent recruitment, providing state-of-the-art training facilities and growth inside of the classroom.

"There's never been a better opportunity to carry on the success of our athletes on the field than through our variety of giving opportunities off of it," he added. "Ranging from our Center for Athletic Performance to our Ferris Futures Scholarship Challenge, this is a very exciting time to be a part of this team."

During his tenure in the alumni relations office, Bunce also was a liaison to regional, statewide and national alumni groups and gatherings. He was the program champion and talent scout for the "Bulldog for Life" alumni video series highlighting successful alumni operating within their field and giving back to the FSU community.

Prior to his stint as the Coordinator for Alumni Relations, Bunce worked as a senior rotational intern for Valleycrest Landscape Companies in Saint Augustine, Fla. He also was an orientation team leader at FSU from 2012-14, aiding in the coordinator of the orientation process and helping conduct daily welcome presentations for up to 500 visitors.

Bunce has served on various campus and community committees, including the Bulldogs' homecoming and commencement committees, while also being involved in several organizations. He was a recipient of Ferris State University's Distinguished Staff Award in 2019 and was FSU's 2013 Homecoming King among his other honors.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in Business Administration from FSU in 2014.
