SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 12, 2013)-- Led by a trio of freshman, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's cross country squad tallied an eighth place finish on Saturday at the 27th-annual Lucian Rosa Invitational held at the Dannehl National Cross Country Course.
The host Rangers tallied 185 points to secure eighth place at the 25-team meet, falling one point shy of Great Lakes Valley Conference nemesis Lewis University as the Flyers placed seventh with a team score of 184. UW-Parkside finished ahead of four Division I schools, including local rival University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Northwestern University earned the team title, accumulating 57 points while Marquette University was second with 78 points. Hillsdale College was the top finishing Division II squad, securing third place with a team tally of 146.
Moriah Palmer was the first Ranger across the finish line, completing the 5,000-meter layout in 18 minutes, 29.9 seconds to place 22nd overall.
Sam Montalbano placed 28th in 18:34.7 while
Lindsay Rogers was the third freshman across the tape for the Rangers, securing 44th place (18:56.0).
Amanda Zittleman finished four tenths of a second behind Rogers in 45th place with
Taylor Miller finishing 51st in 19:00.2.
Ferris State University's Samantha Johnson won the individual title, touring the course in 17:25.5.
The Rangers are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Winneconne, Wis., for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Brooks Invitational.
