SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 6, 2012)-- Jessica Watychowicz paced the field on Saturday at the Lucian Rosa Invitational, winning the 189-runner race and helping the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's cross country squad to a fifth place finish at the Dannehl Cross Country Course.
Watychowicz toured the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 24.1 seconds, besting runner-up Anna Rudd by almost three seconds while holding a 39-second buffer over the next collegiate finisher.
The Rangers tallied 144 points in the team standings to place fifth at the 18-team invitational. Ferris State University claimed top honors with 60 points, followed by Wayne State University (90 points), Hillsdale College (109 points) and the University of Illinois-Chicago (126 points).
Taylor Miller was the second UW-Parkside harrier to cross the tape, finishing 18th in 18:39 while
Kelsey Steenstrup was 27th in 18:53.
Amanda Zittleman was 43rd in 19:17.3 with
Bailey Kerschieter,
Jeana Frederickson and
Hailey Henck, placing back-to-back-to-back in 68th, 69th and 70th place, respectively. Kerschieter clocked a 19:42 with Frederickson 0.6 seconds back while Henck crossed the tape in 19:43.2.
The Rangers are idle next weekend before competing at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Oct. 20 in Springfield, Mo.
