Rangers Fifth at Lucian Rosa Invite

SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 12, 2013)-- Four runners in the top 40 and two in the top 25 propelled the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's cross country squad to a fifth place finish on Saturday at the 27th-annual Lucian Rosa Invitational held at the Dannehl National Cross Country Course.

The Rangers collected 138 points to place fifth in the team standings, besting four NCAA Division I programs including nearby Marquette University. Canadian juggernaut University of Windsor secured the team title at the 19-team event, becoming the first international squad to win the meet with a team tally of 47. Ferris State University took second billing for the second consecutive season, accruing 77 points while Hillsdale College was third (93 points). Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Lewis University was fourth with 109 points.

Jake Dubnicka paced UW-Parkside, completing the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 54.0 seconds to secure 21st place. Cody Kurscheidt was close behind in 24th place, crossing the tape in 26:02.2 while KJ Matuszak was the third Ranger across the line, finishing 30th in 26:11.4. Troy Cunningham was 36th in 26:18.2 while Kyle Staven rounded out the scoring five, finishing 42nd in 26:23.4.

Cloud County Community College's Benard Keter won the race, crossing the finish in 24:57.2.

The Rangers return to action next Saturday, competing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Brooks Invitational.
