Detroit Lions Legend Jason Hanson To Speak On Ferris State Campus Wednesday Night! Free Event
Big Rapids, Mich. - One of the Detroit Lions' all-time greats, former kicker Jason Hanson, will visit the Ferris State University campus on Wednesday, Nov. 5, for a special "Pride of the Lions" presentation at the David L. Eisler Center.
Hason will be featured on campus to share his journey as an athlete, talk about the success of the current team along with his thoughts on competing and in life.
The event is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. (ET). It will take place in the main ballroom at the Eisler Center.
Hanson's appearance on the FSU campus is part of the Arts and Lectures Series and being supported by FSU Athletics.
Hanson retired in 2012 from the Detroit Lions after completing one of the most historical careers in NFL history, spanning 21 seasons as one of the league's most productive kickers. He ranks first in almost every statistical category for a place kicker in Lions' history with records that include field goals made (495), and points scored (2,150). He is the 4th all-time highest scorer in NFL history and holds the NFL record for most games played with one team (327), becoming the first player in NFL history to play 300 games with one franchise.
When Hanson retired, he held the NFL record for most 40-yard field goals and for most 50-yard field goals. He is an inductee into the "Pride of the Lions" Ring of Honor and was named to the Detroit Lions All-Time Team in 2019. In addition to the NFL, after a standout collegiate career at Washington State University where he became WSU's first consensus All-American, in 2015 he was named to the Pac-12 Football All-Century Team as the kicker.
In June of 2018, Hanson was inducted into the College Academic All- America Hall of Fame. And, in 2020, he was selected as only the second kicker in history to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Hanson is an active speaker in the Christian community. He is married to Kathleen, and they have three children: Ryan, Jessica, and Luke.
