Dramatic OT Victory Lifts Ferris State To Second-Straight GLIAC Regular Season Championship

Houghton, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team has claimed at least a share of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship for the second-straight year following a dramatic 89-84 overtime road win over the Michigan Tech Huskies on Thursday (Feb. 15) night in Houghton.

Ferris State got a huge three-pointer from senior wing Noah King with four-tenths of a second remaining in regulation to force overtime for the second consecutive game.

King led Ferris State in scoring with 20 points and shot 50% from beyond the arc while adding three assists. He also scored his 1,000th career point in the win.

Meanwhile, junior center Zach Hankins had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hankins came up with a critical offensive board and found King for the game-tying shot off a missed free throw.

The Bulldogs also got 19 points from senior guard Drew Cushingberry along with 12 points by sophomore guard D'angelo Hughes.

After building a 10-point lead midway thru the first half, Michigan Tech responded and took a four-point lead at halftime. MTU pushed the margin to as many as six points in the second half before Ferris State bounced back.

In the extra session, FSU outscored MTU 14-9 and hit five-of-six free throws to earn the win.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot 51.5% for the night and hit 11-of-21 (52.4%) three's along with eight-of-15 (53.3%) free throws.

Ferris State also outrebounded Michigan Tech 38-28 for the night and pulled down 13 offensive boards to only two for the Huskies, leading to a 9-3 advantage in second chance production.

The Huskies shot 53.8% on the night with standout forward Kyle Monroe scoring 35 points on the night and pulling down 10 boards. The Huskies also got 14 points from Isaac Appleby along with 11 by Bryan Heath and 10 from Ryan Schuller.

MTU finished seven-of-13 (53.8%) from three-point range and 21-of-25 (84%) at the line.

The Bulldogs improved to 26-1 overall and 16-1 in the GLIAC with the triumph while stretching their win streak to 14-straight games. The Bulldogs also own a three-game lead atop the conference with three games remaining in the regular season and can clinch the outright crown and the #1 seed for the league tournament with one more win.

This year represents the fourth-straight campaign in which the Bulldogs have won either a conference regular-season or tournament championship or both. The Bulldogs' 26 wins this year lead the country.

Ferris State will head to Northern Michigan to take on the Wildcats in Marquette at the Berry Events Center on Saturday (Feb. 17) to close out their four-game road trip starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
