Ferris State Returns From Holiday Break With Dominating Home Court Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad returned back from the holiday break in a big way as the Bulldogs rolled past East-West University 101-73 on Saturday (Dec. 29) afternoon at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

FSU used a big run over the final 10 minutes of the first half to build a 61-34 lead at the break and cruised to the win to improve to 10-5 overall this year. The win was FSU's fifth-straight this season.

In the first-ever matchup against the Phantoms, the Bulldogs shot 58% from the floor in the first half and outscored East-West 37-12 in points off turnovers to earn the win as the visitors finished with 28 turnovers.

The Bulldogs got a team-high 23 points from senior forward Markese Mayfield along with 14 each from senior guard DeShaun Thrower and junior Greg Williams. Freshman Carl Bow added 10 points in the victory.

Overall, FSU shot 48% from the floor and went seven-of-27 (25.9%) from three-point range along with 16-of-24 (66.7%) at the free throw stripe.

The Phantoms got a game-high 30 points by Carl Moore in addition to 19 from Marlik Williams in the setback as they fell to 2-25 this year. East-West shot 44.9% overall and was eight-of-24 (33.3%) beyond the arc, but only three-of-eight (37.5%) at the charity stripe.

Ferris State outrebounded the guests 50-35 for the day and pulled down 20 offensive boards while owning a 18-13 edge in second chance production. FSU also held a 62-38 margin in points scored inside the paint and a 43-17 advantage on the break.

The Bulldogs received a game-high nine assists and five steals from junior Jaylin McFadden, who added nine points and five boards. Overall, FSU totaled 28 assists in the win.

Ferris State also finished with 21 steals and four blocked shots as compared to East-West's 19 assists, 16 steals and four blocks.

The win was the 34th-straight victory inside Wink Arena for the Bulldogs dating back to 2016-17.

Ferris State will resume GLIAC play on the road Thursday (Jan. 3) as FSU visits archrival Grand Valley State for a 8 p.m. (ET) league showdown in Allendale. FSU will then host Davenport on Saturday (Jan. 5) at 3 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
