DeShaun Thrower's Game-Winning Three Lifts Bulldogs To Victory At Northern Michigan

Game-Winning Shot 

Big Rapids, Mich. - A three-point shot from Ferris State University senior guard DeShaun Thrower in the closing seconds lifted the Bulldog men's basketball squad to an exciting 62-59 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday (Jan. 12) afternoon inside the Berry Events Center in Marquette.

Thrower lifted the Bulldogs to the win by scoring a team-high 19 points in the victory and his three-point shot from the right wing with 1.2 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Bulldogs beat NMU for the seventh-straight time.

The defending national champions fought back from a three-point halftime deficit to build a double-digit lead before the Wildcats turned the tide and battled back to knot the game up. FSU got a big basket from junior center Cole Walker in the final minute, but NMU's Isaiah Johnson answered inside of 15 seconds remaining to setup the final shot from Thrower.

In a game between two teams locked up in a heated race in the GLIAC North Division, Ferris State improved to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference after earning the split on its trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula following a 64-61 setback at Michigan Tech on Thursday evening. In that game, Thrower had a chance to send the contest to overtime but his three-point try bounced off the rim.

His final game-winning shot on Saturday was critical as FSU shot only 33% for the game and went four-of-19 (21.1%) beyond the three-point stripe in the victory. FSU also went 16-of-20 (80%) at the free throw line.

The Bulldogs held Northern Michigan to only 38% shooting with the Wildcats making seven-of-25 (28%) three's in addition to eight-of-14 (57.1%) tries at the stripe. FSU also forced 16 turnovers in the triumph.

Along with Thrower, Jaylin McFadden added 10 points for FSU with the Bulldogs getting eight points apiece from both Markese Mayfield and Walker.

The Wildcats were led by Naba Echols' team-high 19 points and Sam Taylor added 11 points off the bench as did Johnson.

Ferris State will be back at home to open a three-game homestand starting next Thursday (Jan. 17) evening against Purdue Northwest with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
