First-Place Ferris State Basketball Teams Seeking Divisional Crowns On The Road This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - The first-place Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads head back on the road this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheaders with both teams having an opportunity to clinch division championships.

The Bulldogs will first visit Purdue Northwest on Thursday (Feb. 20) for a league doubleheader at John Friend Court located inside the Fitness and Recreation Center in Hammond, Ind. The women's game will tipoff first at 6 p.m. (ET) followed by the men's game at approximately 8 p.m. (ET).

FSU then wraps up the conference twinbill against Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Feb. 22) with the women's game getting underway at 2 p.m. (ET) and the men's game slated to begin at 4 p.m. (ET) at DeSimone Gymnasium in Kenosha, Wis.

Both doubleheaders will be carried live by flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network with pregame coverage starting at half-hour prior to the opening game. Entering the weekend trip, both Ferris State teams hold a two-game lead atop the GLIAC North Division standings with three games remaining in the regular-season. After this week's action, both teams return home to host Lake Superior State in the regular-season finales on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldog men's squad, which is currently 24-5 overall and 13-4 in the GLIAC, is seeking its 16th all-time conference title and third in the past four years. Meanwhile, the FSU women's team, which is presently 18-7 overall and 12-5 in league action, can claim its third-ever league crown and first since 2012.

Ferris State sits two games ahead of Parkside in the women's divisional standings entering the week and needs a single win to secure a home game for the quarterfinal-round of the league tournament on March 3. Meanwhile, Purdue Northwest is 6-19 on the year and 5-12 in the GLIAC heading into Thursday's game with Parkside at 13-12 overall and 10-7 in league competition going into a home matchup with Lake Superior State prior to facing FSU.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs are two games in front of second-place Michigan Tech in the division and tied with rival Grand Valley State overall in the GLIAC for the top seed in the postseason tourney. FSU, which has clinched a men's quarterfinal-round home game already, will take on a Purdue Northwest squad that holds a 8-17 overall record and a 3-14 league slate on Thursday. Parkside is currently 10-15 on the year and 6-11 in the GLIAC going into the week. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 14th in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II National Poll.
