Ferris State Races Past Purdue Northwest For GLIAC Home Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad put together one of its best performances of the season on Friday (Feb. 19) as the Bulldogs raced to a 89-75 triumph over visiting Purdue Northwest at Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs shot over 50% from the floor and outrebounded the Pride 42-24 for the day en route to the victory. 

FSU got a game-high 24 points from sophomore guard Ben Davidson to go with an impressive 22 points and 10 assists by senior guard Walt Kelser. Sophomore Vejas Grazulis added 17 points and six boards on the inside.

Ferris State jumped out to a 41-25 halftime lead and withstood a second-half Purdue Northwest run. The Pride put up 50 points in the second half on 63% shooting, but the Bulldogs countered with 48 points and shot 57% from the floor over the final 20 minutes as well.

The Bulldogs forced 17 turnovers in the victory while moving to 8-8 overall and 7-6 in the GLIAC. FSU also came up with eight steals and had seven blocked shots on the defensive end.

Overall, Ferris State finished with 29 assists on 38 baskets. Along with Kelser, the Bulldogs got four assists each from Davidson and Grazulis.

Junior forward Mason Pline led FSU on the glass with seven boards while adding six points. The Bulldogs had 15 offensive rebounds in the win.

The two teams will battle again on Saturday (Feb. 20) as FSU looks for the sweep over Purdue Northwest with tipoff set for 4 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
