Ferris State Falls At LSSU In Top 15 Showdown On Thursday Night

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad fell by a 73-63 score to Lake Superior State on Thursday (Jan. 30) evening in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at LSSU's Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Lakers led by as many as nine points in the opening half before the Bulldogs cut the margin to four with 3:28 to go in the period. The Bulldogs eventually took a 36-35 lead at the break following the opening 20 minutes of play.

FSU pushed the margin to six early in the second half before the Lakers responded prior to the first media timeout and moved in front to take a double-digit lead. FSU used a pair of three's from freshman Jaxson Whitaker and junior Tyler Hamilton to trim the margin to six with six minutes remaining in the game.

The Bulldogs eventually cut the margin to 68-64 with just over a minute to play, but LSSU's Tyson Edmondson hit a big three to push the advantage back into the Lakers' favor and they came away with the win.

Ferris State was led by Whitaker with a team-high 13 points while Deng Reng chipped in 11 points. Adam Harakow paced LSSU with a game-high 18 points and Edmondson tallied 17 points, including 15 in the second half of play.

With the win, the Lakers improved to 18-3 overall this year while FSU fell to 18-4 on the year.

The Bulldogs will return home to Jim Wink Arena and host league newcomer Roosevelt University on Monday (Feb. 3) evening with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids. The contest will be a Blackout game with FSU slated to wear its black road uniforms for the tilt and fans are encouraged to wear black. In addition, it will be Community Heroes Night and all first responders, including police, fire and medical personnel can receive free admission at the gate.
