Bio

Luke Bronkema begins his second season on the Bulldog staff at Ferris State University in 2020-21 and serves as an advance scout.

The brother of current FSU head coach Andy Bronkema, Luke assists in advance and internal scouting while playing a limited role in recruiting, preparation, practices and basketball research. Ferris State reclaimed the GLIAC Championship and earned yet another NCAA Division II National Tournament berth in 2019-20 during his first official season with the program.

He brings considerable experience to the FSU program, having most recently served as the head coach at Grand Rapids Community College for the past three seasons. During his tenure with the Raiders, he led GRCC to three consecutive 20-win seasons, a .692 winning percentage, two trips to the NJCAA Sweet Sixteen and three-straight appearances in the District 9 title game.

While at Grand Rapids CC, Bronkema helped send multiple players on to four-year schools and coached the first All-American in more than 20 years for the program. He also led GRCC to the school's most wins at the national championships in school history.

His first team at GRCC, in 2016-17, recorded a 22-14 record and were the District 9 champs while finishing sixth in the country. The following year, in 2017-18, his team went 26-10 and won the district title en route to an eighth-place national finish. Finally, in 2018-19, the Raiders posted a 24-8 mark and claimed the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Division crown. Bronkema was twice named District 9 Coach of the Year and also garnered MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year laurels at GRCC.

Previously, he served two years as an assistant coach at Muskegon Community College following a standout career at Cornerstone University where he was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. He also won a state championship at McBain during his prep career.

Bronkema and his wife, Becky, have two girls, Harper and Brynn.
