Ferris State University alum and former Bulldog men’s basketball player Tom Lesko is in his first season on head coach Andy Bronkema’s staff.

Lesko played for the Bulldogs under legendary head coach Jim Wink from 1977-81 and served as a team co-captain as a senior. He earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1981 and was an all-conference choice. Additionally, he claimed league all-defensive team honors each of his final two collegiate seasons.

Following his Ferris State career, Lesko played professional in New Zealand from 1982-84. He then spent 34 years as a teacher in the state of Michigan with stints at Morley-Stanwood, St. Clair Shores Lakeshore and the Chippewa Valley School district, where he last served from 1987-2017.

Along with his teaching career, Lesko was a prep basketball coach, spending 36 seasons on the boys side along with 25 coaching girls basketball. His prep coaching career included serving as the varsity boys basketball coach at Morley-Stanwood along with 11 years as the varsity girls basketball coach at Chippewa Valley and Macomb Dakota. Lesko also coached JV boys hoops for 30 years and spent time coaching JV girls basketball along with seventh, eighth and ninth grade basketball for both genders.

A White Cloud High School graduate, Lesko earned bachelor’s degrees from FSU in both math education and applied mathematics in addition to a master’s degree in athletic administration at Wayne State University. He was the Bulldogs’ Victor Spathelf Leadership Award recipient in 1981 and also tabbed as the Math Student of the Year.

Lesko and his wife, Martha Adelsburg, have been married for more than 33 years.
