Ferris State Golf Coach Featured In Magazine

Mike Mignano, the head coach of the Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams, was recently featured in the Michigan Student Golfer Magazine's College Coach's Spotlight.
In the two-page article of the magazine's Summer 2009 edition, Mignano highlights the success of both Ferris State's men's and women's golf programs along with the importance of academics, recruiting, and evaluating the sport's student-athletes.
Mignano will be starting his third year this 2009-10 season directing both Bulldog programs after being named as permanent head coach on August 7, 2008. He's the sixth individual to be tabbed as head coach in the history of the school's golf programs. Prior to his appointment, Mignano served on an interim basis beginning with the 2007-08 spring season.
This past season, Mignano directed the nationally 10th-ranked FSU women's golf team to a sixth-place tying finish of 12 teams at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships (May 13-16) in Findlay, Ohio. The national tournament appearance represented the ninth such trip for the women's team and the program's second straight under Mignano's tutelage. The 2008-09 squad placed third or better in 10 of their 14 season tournaments, which included three consecutive first-place tourney performances.
On the men's side, Ferris State has achieved national success as the Bulldogs produced a school-record tying eighth-place showing at the 2009 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships (May 19-22) at Blaine, Wash. The Bulldogs, who would conclude the 2008-09 campaign ranked 24th nationally, made their 13th national tournament appearance in the program's history and the first since the 2007 season. In the spring season alone, FSU claimed four tournament championship titles.
A 2006 Ferris State graduate, Mignano spent time as an assistant golf professional/PGA intern at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif., and as a PGA intern at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., following graduation. He also was an assistant coach for the boy's golf team at Chelsea (Mich.) High School in the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Mignano is a member of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA).
